Many things are being working on, I feel a year from now we will already have mroe treatments than just propecia, minox, dut, and nizoral.

Going bald is tough but i have hope in in the future, Like i said i think we will be much further than we are now in just 1 year.

Theres another important thing people forget about. There are many companies working on a treatment, but the drugs we have now were discovered by accident. Scientists didn’t make propecia, avodart, and minox because they though it would help fight MPB, they were discovered by accident. With all the new drugs cominng i bet well see atleast one of them have a positive effect on hair loss with in the next year.

There is some more extensive information in our treatments section under gene therapy but it’s not recent.

On the other hand we need to cancel topically to the immune system after injury is regeneration.

On the other hand , Wnt (increase by licl) and Shh signaling pathways are critical for the development and maturation of many epithelial tissues (hair follicles for example).
this is the link :http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=1794217

If we are to achieve the regeneration of tissue including the hair follicles, we have to cancel the topically immune system ( by topical tacrolimus 0.1% or another) , and prevent any sign of inflammation ( by topical hidrocrotisone 0.1 % and topical antihistamine (azelastine 0.1 %)because inmune system and inflamation obstruct hair follicle creation after injury.

It may be. Although the composition of emu oil can vary and is not commercially standardized, emu oil typically contains myristic, palmitic, stearic, oleic, linoleic, and linolenic fatty acids. Some of these fatty acids have been shown to inhibit the synthesis of DHT in vitro, so there are potential positive effects for treating MPB with emu oil.

The stratum corneum of the epidermis is the primary barrier to absorption of topical medications. Emu oil was found to have a high concentration of on-polar monounsaturated fatty acids, which may explain its ability to penetrate easily through the stratum corneum. Emu oil is almost 100% triglyceride lipid. Triglycerides are abundant in human skin lipids, so that the composition of fatty acids in human skin is similar to that of emu oil, which makes the absorption of emu oil into human skin faster and easier.

Unfortunately, one of the major drawbacks of using any non-FDA approved or regulated medications is the lack of reliable information in regards to its efficacy and safety. As for ‘any herb or natural product for MPB’, we have a Catch-22 situation. It costs in the hundreds of millions of dollars to obtain an FDA approval for a new drug and the FDA will not grant an exclusive patent for ‘herbs and natural products’. Since the pharmaceutical company cannot recapture the cost of any research and development of emu oil as a treatment for MPB, we will never have well-designed studies to prove its value or to establish the optimal doses for emu oil as a treatment for MPB.

I’ve lifted for 30 years and use a variety of supplements including protein shakes(2 to 4 per day) and never noticed an increased shed from them and I pretty much have the same amt of hair now as when I started lifting.

I did read that when you work out hard like I do, it increases test so there’s more to be converted to DHT thus possibly increasing hair loss. I’m not sure I buy that. Some of the big lifters at the gym have great heads of hair but then again, we’re all different and they might just have super hair! Then again, my wt lifting buddies, big guys and both half my age, have less hair than I do and we pretty much take the same sups. IMO it’s genetics, genetics, genetics! I use Rogaine 2x’s/day, Niz shampoo 1% every third shampoo with Revita in between and Proscar(5mg fin) daily. Started Proscar 15 years ago for medical reasons and initially experienced sides but they resolved after being on the meds for about 6 weeks. Started Rogaine whenever it first came out(first with a prescription then otc) but have used minox since 1981.

So there is a potential you may lose hair (even transplanted hair), although that is unlikely. Unfortunately, this is theoretical and I do not have a clear answer for you as I have not seen anyone taking Accutane with a hair transplant. Also keep in mind you may not lose hair at all even if you take Accutane (is it is only a “potential” side effect). I would also consult with your dermatologist for a better understanding of your risks and benefits.

I usually to avoid directtell my patients sunlight for a minimum of 4 months. There are a few very good reasons for this:

1. The first is that ANYTIME the skin is cut it may become more sensitive to light, particularly ultraviolet.

2. The second is that while the native skin around the transplant is capable of protecting itself from over-exposure to sunlight in the first few months after surgery, the newly implanted transplants are NOT.

I had a patient who received a sunburn within a month after his transplant. He visited the office because of the swelling and asked me to treat it. What I noticed was that while the skin around the transplants became VERY red, the sites where the grafts were implanted were totally WHITE. This meant that the skin could darken to somewhat protect itself, but the skin of the grafts had not regained this protective ability yet.

The skin contains chromatophores that will darken the skin when exposed to too much sun as a form of protection. However, these chromatophores either become inactive or die during transplantation and it takes time for them to either recover or regenerate within the grafts.

I treated this pateint with steroids successfully and he made a full recovery. Eight months later he visited for a follow up and experience thick growth as if nothing had happened. I wrote the case up and it was published in our industry journal around 1995.

In the end, the scalp is VERY resilient, but it is best NOT to test it. I can think of no vacation venue that takes place in the sun where a hat or bandana couldn’t be worn to protect your new hair.
